Mrs. M. Lincoln (Sheri Manthei) has been doing
programs now for almost 12 years. Her father Paul, a
civil war gun dealer, was doing a gun show at the
cascades in Jackson, Michigan. When she happened
upon the camp of Abraham Lincoln (Me, Ralph Borror)
during the day of the show. It must have awakened
something inside of her because some time later she
asked. "If I had the cloths, could I be your Mrs.
Lincoln". I had several ladies that would help me
out when I really needed a Mary. But no one was
there all the time. So I said yes.
That must have been an
interesting winter at the home of the future Mary
Lincoln. The next spring she showed up at the
Lincoln Camp with all the new cloths in tow. Not
just one dress but several. Also she must have spent
a great deal of time in research. She hit the road
as though she was the real Mary Todd Lincoln. All
kinds of programs were done that first year. Her Two
Kids became her sister Mrs. Helm and son
became Willie.
As the years have gone by
she has added many more dresses (Well researched
reproductions of Mary's cloths). Her knowledge has
increased many times with visits to places the
Lincoln's have lived and the books that have been
written. It is not out of the ordinary to get a
question from the very latest book published. So
reading the latest book is a must for Us.
Sheri can give a wide
variety of programs on the Lincoln Family. With or
without the President. She has also become through
the research on Mary's cloths an expert on cloths of
the Civil War period.
